I guess I am attacking your business model of scamming people into upgrading without letting them know upfront that you are actually downloading software that you can't use until you pay the fee to unlock it. The "Upgrade" is identical to the previous version!!! Edited after reply from Nchsoftware: Thank you for the reply Nchsoftware and absolutely not addressing my situation at all. I ended up buying it, because I needed to finish the video. The little popup asked me to UPDATE THE SOFTWARE! BUT DID NOT TELL ME THAT I HAD TO PAY $79!!! The previous version worked fine and there was no reason for me to update. WARNING!!! Extremely frustrated when a popup appeared when I tried to open my videopad editor to do a quick project.

THEY LIE, THEY CLAIM YOU GET A REFUND, YET THEY DON'T RESPOND! THEY DON'T DISCLOSE IT IS FOR WINDOWS 8.1 UNTIL AFTER YOU BUY AFTER ADVERTISING AS FREE! Just got an email from someone named Simon who said the refund will be gladly processed and the billing dept will get in touch when it is processed! I am not holding my breath! I have gotten NO RESPONSE! ON THEIR WEBSITE IT CLEARLY SAYS IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH ANY PRODUCT THEY HAVE A 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! GUESS WHAT? I AM NOT GOING AWAY! I WILL GET MY MOENY BACK. Two to their refund request and one just now to their contact us. I am at about 72 hours of working on this! I have contacted my bank who asked me to contact them in good faith! I have sent three messages.

I recently looked into obtaining an update and the NCH website stated that an upgrade price would be applicable for software purchased more than three months ago. I was on their site looking for a program to do a photo dvd for my grandson's 2nd birthday! I came upon this and it said free! All of a sudden up pops a window for purchasing! I had already devoted several hours to this and really wanted to do this for him! I spent what was supposed to be $49.99 but was charged $50.52 and some international fee from my bank! I spent from Friday night through last night sleeping for an hour trying to get this junk to work! It keeps crashing, I keep getting a black screen or nothing at all. I purchased NCH Switch Sound Converter Plus version 1.13 some years ago and I have been happy with my purchase until now.
Also, it appears they want you pay money to be able to export the videos you create, so the Demo version is practically useless.SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES AND NON EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I like that the editor takes various formats, and doesn't downgrade the quality of my videos, but with all the glitches it's just not worth the extra time and effort. It seems to only work properly if you add from the beginning everything in the order you want it. Sometimes it moves everything over to keep things in sync, other times it doesn't. I don't understand why it can't just auto-connect the clips, instead of leaving gaps in between. And if you don't line up the little red bar perfectly, it splits your clip and puts another clip in the middle of it. Everything was fine at first, but when I started to trim clips and audio files, things started to go out of sync, and clips started trimming that weren't supposed to trim, and part of my audio disappeared for seemingly no reason. It took me one hour to do with this software, what I could do with my old one in five minutes. It works great for simple edits, but if you want to do something more complex, it becomes tedious. I've used NCH products before, and this editor started off really promising, but they made it far more complicated than it needs to be. Your chutzpah to just revoke access to a product I PURCHASED and ASK ME FOR MORE MONEY is egregious. We are offering you a 50% discount, since you are 'upgrading'" Seriously? You wont get a single penny more out of me.

"You are using a demo version, if you have a registration code, please enter it now." So I fished the registration code out of my email from 2 years ago, enter it in, and am informed that "this code is from a previous version of the software, in order to use this software you will need to purchase a new registration code. I update the software successfully, it restarts.
I started up the software today, to a popup saying "software update available". Then why the 1 star review? Because they invalidated my product code and will no longer allow me to use the software I PURCHASED WITH MONEY until I BUY IT AGAIN. The software itself is fine, I have used it for simple splicing of videos and messing around with audio levels for about 2 years.
